| Drill Hall Site Mosaics |
|
|
| As part of your trail make sure you visit the new memorial garden at the Drill Hall site, next to the clock tower. In collaboration with Burnham Town Council and St Peters High School, Glynnis Dye has designed 5 mosaics. These form part of the memorial garden for John Smith, then mayor of Burnham and leader of Maldon District Council, |

his wife Angela, and daughter Jacqueline, who died tragically in a plane crash in 2007.
The gardens were designed by St Peters High School students 5 years ago, as part of a community project and the mosaics have been made by Wings students in a series of workshops led by Glynnis. The gardens have been designed to represent the historic industries and environment of the town, with the mosaics representing the flora and fauna found in the River Crouch.
The site, next to the clock tower in the old market square, is an historic one dating back to 1595. The town well, which was known as 'Juers Well' is located beneath. |
