Christmas Pop-up Gallery |
|
Friday 31st December 2010 |
|
|
|
Over the winter months the art trail artists & makers have certainly not been idle.
Just before Christmas they opened
a "pop-up gallery" in the High Street and over the
9 days of trading they raised much needed funds to support the forthcoming 7th Burnham Art Trail. |
The public were very supportive and braved the snowy weather to admire and buy from the range of art on view. Alongside traditional oil and watercolour paintings there was beautiful millinery, jewellery, leather goods, turned wood and a varied selection of prints. The participating artists donated wonderful handmade Christmas cards which were undoubtedly best sellers.
Our thanks go to all those who made this such a worthwhile event!

| BAT 2010 Report |
|
The trail attracted over 900 visitors to the town and raised the profile of visual arts within the district, showing the work of 39 artists in 31 venues.
Many of the local businesses reported increased sales during the Art Trail week. The overall feeling of the proprietors is that apart from bringing more people into the town,
it actively involves them in the community.
The feedback from the visitor's book and questionnaires from all who participated has been very impressive and positive, with visitors enjoying the whole experience of visiting Burnham on Crouch - not just seeing the artwork, but also visiting the pubs, cafes and shops in our riverside town.
In 2010 we provided people with an opportunity to get involved and try something new with a selection of artists workshops. These included woodblock printing, Japanese calligraphy, papermaking, watercolour painting and acrylic painting.

We actively encourage community involvement and for 2010 the 1st Burnham Brownies contributed with their display at the library. Each year the children’s quiz winner receives a prize of art materials and has the opportunity to have a piece of their artwork professionally framed and exhibited at Burnham Museum the following year.
During the 2010 Art Trail week we again demonstrated our support for the RNLI.
Afternoon tea and cakes were served in the sculpture garden and Peter Freshwater donated one of his sculptures to be raffled in aid of the new floating boathouse. The collection boxes raised £171.84 and the teas and raffle £264.00.

| Councillors' u-turn on Burnham Art Trail grant |
Thursday 6 May 2010 |
Councillors accused of being “tight” have gone back on their decision not to grant money to the Burnham Art Trail. Burnham Town Council opted to give the event £300 to help with its running costs, a month after initially refusing the request from organiser Tracy Saunders. That decision led to councillor Rosie Buck calling her peers “tight”, and it was Mrs Buck who wrote a letter asking the town council to reconsider. And several members of the council revealed at a meeting last night that they had changed their minds and were now willing to support the application.
