19th June – 27th June 2010

Welcome to the 6th Burnham Art Trail

We are proud to be showing the latest work from 39 contemporary artists. Alongside our regular contributors we have 10 new artists and, in the library, a wall hanging designed and produced by the 1st Burnham Brownies to celebrate 100 years of
Girl Guiding.

This year we wanted to give our visitors the opportunity to join in and unlock their artistic talents with a full programme of demonstrations and workshops.

We also have our regular art trail quiz for younger visitors, which can be picked up at the Museum or Tourist Information Centre.

As part of the Essex Summer of Art “Art Relay” a large roll of paper will be passed from art trail to art trail around the county in “consequences” style. A team of artists from each trail will create a piece of artwork on a metre-long section of the roll before handing it on to the next art trail. Artists Jenny Hill, Sandy Sykes and Kitty Guthrie will be working on our section throughout the art trail week at the Burnham Museum before it gets rolled up and passed on. The final artwork will be unrolled in its entirety at the end of The Essex Summer of Art in October.

Throughout the week artists Jim Bradshaw and Akiko Fujikawa will again be opening their studios, including a late opening on Friday 24th from 6-9pm. Steven Harkin will also be welcoming you into his workshop for one day on Saturday 26th June. There you can see how he designs and crafts his unique handbags and leather goods.

In the afternoons ‘The Garden’ at 4 Fernlea Close will be open where the work of
Mike Barter and Peter Freshwater can be viewed. Tea and cake will be available with proceeds going towards fundraising for a new boathouse for the Burnham RNLI.

Drill Hall Site Mosaics
In collaboration with Burnham-on-Crouch Town Council and St Peters High School, Glynnis Dye has designed 5 mosaics to be placed in the paving as part of a memorial garden to be situated next to Burnham Clock Tower. The designs can be viewed at
the museum during the Art Trail. For more information on this and other community projects and events go to our events page.
