Art Meets Community at The Ground Café

Kevin Harber – Wood for the Sole

From 5 December onwards step into a world of wood and creativity as The Ground Café transforms into a vibrant gallery space.

Kevin Harber (a shot bio)

Hi, I’m Kevin. I create one-of-a-kind artworks and sculptures from reclaimed wood — windfall branches, driftwood, old timbers rescued from skips — often combined with copper, metal and other materials when the piece calls for it.

I’ve been making for over ten years. I’m entirely self-taught, always learning, always experimenting. My work is inspired by the natural world, especially the birds, fish, whales and occasional sailing craft that fill our coastline. I try to capture a sense of movement in everything I make, bringing each piece to life.

My love of birds goes right back to childhood. I still walk the salt-marsh coastline as often as I can, soaking in the sights and sounds of wading birds. That feeling of isolation and wilderness is endlessly inspiring — it sparks so many of the ideas that become my sculptures.

I’ve been part of the Burnham Art Trail for around eight years, and I look forward to it every year. It’s a real pleasure to open my home studio, welcome visitors in, and share both the finished work and the space where it’s created.

You can find more of my work on Instagram and Facebook at @woodforthesole — a name that brings together my love of wood and my love of long walks. For me, creating and walking are both genuinely good for the soul.

Thanks for your interest,
Kevin Harber – Wood Art
